Faces of The Undertaker

Original Undertaker 1990-1994

Fans would witness the Undertaker at the 1990 Survivor Series when Ted Dibiase would announce his mystery partner. In a year later in 1991 at the Survivor Series, the Undertaker would beat the immortal Hulk Hogan to gain the WWE Championship for the first time. In his first ever WrestleMania match, he would defeat "Superfly" Jimmy Snuka. At the 1992 Survivor Series, the Undertaker emerged victorious in his first-ever casket match, by defeating Kamala. At WrestleMania IX, the Undertaker took on the Giant Gonzales. Giant Gonzalez used a handkerchief soaked with a mysterious sedative. The Giant held it over the Undertaker's mouth and nose. The chemical took over, and the Grim Reaper went down. The Giant was disqualified, and the Undertaker went out on a stretcher. However, before the man from the Dark Side reached the locker room, he rose and went back to continue his brawl. In January 1994 at the Royal Rumble, the Undertaker was looking for gold when he took on Yokozuna in a Casket Match. During the match, ten of Yokozuna's men jumped the Phenom and stuffed him into the casket. Green smoke poured out from the casket and the Undertaker appeared on the giant screen vowing to never rest in peace. The Man From the Darkside then rose to the ceiling, never to be seen or heard from until later that year.

Deadman 1994-1996

After months of not seeing the Undertaker, Ted DiBiase claimed that he had brought the Undertaker back from the dead. But on an episode of RAW, Paul Bearer claimed that the REAL Undertaker would indeed return, and at SummerSlam 1994, the Undertaker returned, wearing purple gloves, tie, and boots. After three Tombstones, DiBiase's Undertaker was laid to rest. During the Survivor Series, Yokozuna would also be laid to rest. In 1996, the Undertaker would put Diesel, King Kong Bundy, Irwin R. Schyster, Kama, and Goldust to rest. It was not until May of 1996, when the Undertaker would meet Mankind. Mankind attacked the Undertaker every chance he got, but the two would meet at King of the Ring, which Mankind won. At SummerSlam 1996, they would meet again, this time in a Boiler Room Brawl, which Mankind won when Paul Bearer laid out the Undertaker with his own urn. In October of 1996, the Undertaker would take on Mankind in the first ever Buried Alive Match. With the help of other WWE Superstars, the Undertaker was buried alive, but in minutes, a lightning bolt struck the grave and the Undertaker's hand stuck through the grave.

The Lord of Darkness 1996-1998

After being buried alive by Mankind, the Undertaker returned at the 1996 Survivor Series at Madison Square Garden when he faced Mankind with Paul Bearer in a steel cage hanging over head. The Undertaker won that match, but did not get his hands on Paul Bearer. It was at WrestleMania 13 where the Undertaker defeated Psycho Sid and became the WWE Champions for a second time. He lost the title to Bret "Hitman" Hart at SummerSlam. During that summer, WWE fans found out that the Phenom had a secret, that he burned down his home when he was a child, killing his parents and brother Kane. Paul Bearer also had a secret, Kane was alive. The Undertaker would later meet Kane at In Your House, Badd Blood, where he would face Shawn Michaels in the first ever Hell In A Cell. In was in 1998, where the Undertaker would meet his arch rival, Mankind. At the King of the Ring, Undertaker threw Mankind off and through the Hell In A Cell. During that summer at SummerSlam, Undertaker would meet Stone Cold for the WWE title. Although the Undertaker did not get the title, he still wanted revenge on Austin. The two would meet in December at Rock Bottom: In Your House, in a Buried Alive match. With the help of Kane and a backhoe, Stone Cold buried the Lord of Darkness alive.

Ministry of Darkness 1999

In January of 1999, the Undertaker returned from the grave on an episode on RAW, but he didn't come alone. He showed up on stage, sitting on a throne with Paul Bearer and the Acolytes (Bradshaw and Farrooq) at his side. That night, he made his first sacrifice, Dennis Knight, and renamed him Mideon. He also took the Brood (Edge, Christian, and Gangrel) under his wing, along with Viscera (King Mabel). The Undertaker vowed that he will take of the WWE. That year, the Undertaker tried to get into the mind of Vince McMahon by showing up at his home, burning Stephanie McMahon's stuffed teddy bear, and by hanging the Big Bossman at WrestleMania XV. The Undertaker claimed that he answered to a Greater Power, that Greater Power ended up being Vince McMahon. Then McMahon and the Phenom joined forces and created the Corporate Ministry. It was in 1999 that the Undertaker would defeat Stone Cold Steve at Over the Edge to become the WWE Champion for a third time. At SummerSlam of 1999, the Undertaker and Big Show, also known as the Unholy Alliance, defeated Kane and X-Pac to become Tag Team Champions. It was later that summer, that the Undertaker would walk out of the WWE on an episode of SmackDown!.

The American Badass 2000-2001

After the Undertaker walked out on Vince McMahon, WWE, and his fans, everyone was wondering when we would see the Deadman once again. During 2000, the Undertaker made his triumph return at Judgment Day, riding a Harley-Davidson motorcycle to the ring, with Kid Rock's American Badass blaring on the speakers. The Undertaker made quick work of Triple H, The Rock, and Shane McMahon. During 2000, the Undertaker joined up with The Rock to become WWE Tag Team Champions

In 2001, WWE first introduced the Undertaker's real life wife, Sara to the world of wrestling. From this point, the Undertaker showed more of an affectionate side than what WWE and Undertaker fans have seen in the past. In 2001, the Undertaker joined with Kane and captured the WWE Tag Team titles from Edge and Christian. The Brothers of Destruction also defeated Chuck Palumbo and Sean O’Haire for the WCW Tag Team titles on SmackDown!. They also defeated Chris Kanyon and DDP for the WWE Tag Team titles at SummerSlam 2001. It is during this phase of the character, that the Undertaker faced Triple H at WrestleMania 17 and won.

Original Deadman 2004-Current

Having been buried by his half brother Kane at the 2003 Survivor Series, the Undertaker returned at WrestleMania 20. The Undertaker returned dressed in his Big Evil outfit, used the trench coat from his American Badass era, and an old western Undertaker hat he had used back in the early 1990's. This new hybrid of a Deadman is more mean and evil then ever before. He destroyed Paul Bearer, saying that he [Paul Bearer] was his only weakness. With Paul Bearer out of the way, he went on to defeat opponents such as JBL, Heidenreich, and Randy Orton. The Undertaker is now 13-0 at WrestleMania.
